TED Talks
The Real Difference Between Liberals and Conservatives
The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy Zagreb hereby invites you to the first in the series of “TED Talks” events on April 27 at 6 pm in the American Corner of Bogdan Ogrizovic Library, Preradoviceva 5.
“TED Talks” discussions will be hosted at the American Corner once a month (with the exception of July and August). Attendance is open to the public and you may forward this invitation to anyone who may be interested.
This month’s video features psychologist Jonathan Haidt with his lecture on “The real difference between liberals and conservatives”. We invite you to engage in a lively and open discussion on his presentation of the five moral values forming the basis of our political views and how individuals see and value them on the bases of their own political stand point. Ms. Nevena Crljenko from the Academy for Political Development will be moderating this event, while Mr. Berto Salaj from the Faculty of Political Science will link this issue to the Croatian perspective.
TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design - http://www.ted.com/) is an annual conference that defines its mission as "ideas worth spreading". The lectures from these conferences have come to be known as “TED Talks” and, as a result of the popularity of the talks, the conference website has been reengineered around “TED Talks,” with the goal of giving everyone on-demand access to the world's most inspiring voices on topics including science, arts and design, politics, education, culture, business, global issues, technology and development, and entertainment. Speakers have included such people as former U.S. President Bill Clinton, Nobel laureates James D. Watson, Murray Gell-Mann, and Al Gore, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, and Google co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page. Approximately 370 TED talks are provided for free viewing online. As of January 2009, talks had been viewed over 90 million times by more than 15 million people. Today, TED has become a global community of people from every discipline and culture. They share the goal of gaining a deeper understanding of the world and turning that understanding into a better future for all.
